Many people who want to earn some extra money on a nice and easy way start playing (online) poker. Why?

Because poker became very popular in the last years with the easy access to online poker sites, big live tournaments and many television shows about poker. If you ask people at a party if somebody plays poker for sure 20% will answer yes or at least played a few times.

The big difference between poker and other gambling games is, with poker you can earn good money on a long term period. You play poker against other people instead of playing against a computer or the casino. There is always one winner on a table, if one player looses his money then the other player wins this money. The important thing is to play better than your opponent and with a bit of practice, discipline and a good strategy you can reach a high level to find opponents who you can beat.

Try to find the perfect strategy and read some of the articles on our site about tips and strategy lessons. If you get some experience you should be able to win on a lower level in a pokerroom. During the time you get more experience you can increase your level.

With the correct discipline you will be able to earn about 30 euro per hour. Offcourse this depends a lot of your qualities and experience, but it's possible to reach it. Big poker players earn amounts of 30.000 euro per month, which is more than 200 euro per hour and some players earn even more.

The question we hear a lot is: But why are there so many bad players? The answer is not so difficult. Many players don't study or practice before they start playing for real money. They played a few times with some friends and think they are ready for the real games on the internet. You don't start playing chess as well without reading and studying the rules, tactics, strategy and opening moves. The same counts for poker. There are many books and articles on the internet to learn the basic and some advanced lessons for winning in poker. The best poker players have studied these lessons for years to become that good.

Good poker players have a strong discipline. If you have some bad days, don't give up immediately and keep playing according to basic strategy. Then things will change soon and you will go back to winning days. The most players don't have discipline; they just want to have fun in a poker game and bet/bluf (gamble) a lot because they like the action more than winning in a patience way. And that's mostly the way to loose a lot of money.

Finally

The above story sounds very positive and it's the reality for many players. If poker is new to you, you can not avoid the time it needs to start winning. Don't quit to fast and easy, because with a lot of experience and when you find the correct strategy you can become a winning player. We know that some people have more talents for the game than  others. If you see after a half year that you don't win a game or you don't see any progression, be honest to yourself and quit or only play a few times. Stop on time before it's too late, because although many people got very rich with the game, more people got very poor with the poker game.
