The rules of the game are as follows. The Dealer Blinds To start the Omaha game the player left from the dealer has to pay the small blind (mostly the half of the minimum bet) and the player second left from the dealer has to pay the big blind (equal to the minimum bet). In this way the game starts with some money in the pot and the other players are being motivated to place bets. The word 'blinds' means the bets which are placed before any cards are dealt. The Deal Every player gets 4 cards, called ' Pocket cards' or ' Hole cards', which are only visible for the player. Place bets After all the players received their four pocket cards the next step is a betting round which starts at the player left from the player who paid the big blind. Depending what previous players did each player has to choose between: All these actions has to be done in the betting limits and table limits. Each betting round can have more turns per player if there are raises and re-raises. The betting round is finished when all the players placed their last bet or folded. The Flop The next step is the flop. Three common cards are dealt on the table face up. Then there is a new betting round. The Turn The next step is the turn. One new common card is dealt on the table face up. Then there is a new betting round. The River The next step is the river. One new and last common card is dealt on the table face up. Then there is the last betting round. The Showdown If all the bets are placed and the last betting round is finished then the Showdown will follow. The players still active in the game have to use two of the four face down cards and 3 of the cards on the table and the best poker hand combination with 5 cards is the winner of the round and wins the pot. In Omaha you are not allowed to use 5 common cards, like in Texas Hold'em. If two or more players have the same winning combination the pot has to be divided. Next hand After the round is finished and the winner receiver the money, the Dealer Button will be transferred to the next player (around the table clockwise) and the two players left from the new dealer pay their blinds. A new betting round starts. |
