So you get your first two cards and have to make a decision what to do. This decision has to be based on your two cards and depending on the position at the table what your previous players did. To help you starting we have below the basic hand strategy with your first two cards.

The best cards

The best combinations are the following:

A-A
K-K
Q-Q
J-J
A-Ks (s = suited, from the same sort, for example hearts)
A-Qs

These are the best combinations and your action will be raise or re-raise. You want to get as many as possible chips in the pot because you have a winning hand in front of you. The second reason to raise or re-raise is to get players with less quality hands out of the prizepool.

Good hands

Good hands are the following:

10-10
9-9
A-Q
A-Js
A-J
K-Qs
K-Q

These are good hands but not super. Most of the times you need help to win. Also with these hands we advice you to play. You want as many as possible chips in the pot so it's good to raise or re-raise.

Reasonable hands

The following combinations are reasonable good:

8-8
A-10s
A-10
K-Js
K-J
Q-Js
Q-J
J-10s

These have potentions, but be carefull. Many times you can get in problems with these hands. With suited cards you can play these hands, especially in rounds with many players.

Bad hands

The following combinations are not so good:

A-xs
K-10s
K-9s
A-9
7-7
6-6
Q-10s
9-8s
8-7s
7-6s

These are bad hands and you don't win many times with these combinations. On long term they have potentials because with a good flop you can win a big pot.

Terrible hands

All combinations we didn't mentioned yet are very bad hands and never play them. The chances of winning are too small. You must be a very good poker player to win with these hands.
